When Maureen walked down the aisle, we all held our breath. The music played gently in the back ground as Maureen (with both of her parents) gracefully walked in. It was breath-taking. I looked at Jay, wondered what was going through his mind as he looked at Maureen, draped behind the long cathedral veil. I knew that he had been waiting for this moment a long long time. This was the moment, this was it, he was finally marrying the one his soul ached for. Everying was still and quiet. No one else existed in this moment, it was just he & Maureen. I heard the beautiful song play in background….oh yes it was Pete Odera’s – Mwingine
playing…I took the shot then closed my eyes & savoured this moment…this was going to be a beautiful wedding…

Maureen’s Story —-> “One afternoon in October 2009, I had gone swimming with my cousin at one of the resorts in Kakamega when Jay walked in with Dave (my Uni class mate). Dave came to say hi and left. After an extra 30 minutes in the swimming pool, my cousin and I left for home.
We didn’t met until that December of 2009 while conducting the National census, and that is where our friendship grew. By the end of 2009 Jay asked me to be his girlfriend but I was in a relationship then. So, we agreed on being friends, but we made it a routine to be spending every December 31st and 1st of every January together which has always been our tradition to date.
He never gave up on me since then, he always made a point of visiting & calling often. After ending my previous relationship, I still thought it wise for us to be friends, I needed some time away from relationships. He has always been there for me ever since.
Then in December 2012, about 3 years after we became buddies, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes:). He had been patient for three long years. He proposed to me on the 9th of February, 2013 after a visit to his parents home. It was really amazing, though he did it without a ring.
He gave me my engagement ring when we had gone to the USA where he took me to shop for my 2 gowns. The ring was spectacularly covered with 26 diamonds. It was my dream come true. The rest as they say is history. I cannot wait to see what life has in store for Jay & me”
Without further ado, I present to you Jay & Maureen’s story
Gathoni started off with the grooms men. I absolutely adored Jay’s wrist watch…Swatch
is definitely the way to go
Since the outdoors was absolutely lovely and we decided to do Jay’s prep shots there
Hahahah really crazy fellows these are!
Jay with the guys…
Maureen chose to have two gown for her wedding and they both had to be David’s Bridal
, one of the best in the game if you’d ask me
Kakamega was really beautiful & the rising sun made it even more glorious…I could shoot weddings like this any day!
The chicken just dropped by just to ensure that I did not encroach their territory, humans were definitely not welcome 🙂
Mo’s engagement ring…with 26 diamonds…all I could say was wow!!!!…I was extra careful to ensure that I did not drop it in the brush below
Those silver earrings dazzled the maize leaves, silver & maize never looked this good!!! Oh don’t we have a beautiful country
This is one handsome little fellow….he will def break a few hearts when he is all grown 🙂
The music & dancing started quite early & lasted throughout the day. We have never been witness to so much joy, jubilation & dance like we did on this day. The locals from Kakamega know what it means to THROW a wedding!!!!
Little angel was pretty excited during the bridal prep…she must have been waiting for this day to arrive a long time
Our lovely bride for the day, Maureen was on an all time high, she too had been waiting for this day and would let nothing or no one get her down
Good times we shared here…there was so much joy & excitement, I felt like putting down my camera & dancing too…as I always mention, a wedding ought to be a celebration, unlike the day you were born or will die, your wedding is the only day you get to plan & be part of, so why not celebrate?
Given the chance to re-write the marriage laws, I would make long cathedral veils compulsory for all brides 🙂 nothing comes close to this!
Mo’s maid of honour in the background, relived the quote ‘ A stitch in time, saves nine’ 🙂
Gadgets have become the daily story of our lives, so we just accepted them & moved on 🙂
And the beautiful bride of the day is revealed to the women in waiting, & the ululations reached an all time high!
Security was really tight just in case any guy had the bright idea of running away with the beautiful bride 🙂
Got this very beautiful image of Maureen resting on her dad’s shoulder, weddings are made of such beautiful moments as these, Oh so precious
Maureen is helped get into the bridal car, and off we were to get her married to her knight in ‘Shining Armour’ ( Replace ‘Shining Armour’ with black suit :))
When we got to the church, ACK Christ Church Milimani
the setting was perfect & it was full house, everyone who was anyone, was present
1st up down the aisle was our handsome groom, Jay, escorted by his folks
Loved this image much of Jay’s mum
This is definitely the way to walk down the aisle, laugh till it hurts 🙂
Mo leaves the bridal car & gets ready to walk down to be finally united to the man of her dreams
These two images were taken at the exact time by Gathoni & I, what a wonderful coincidence
And then with Pete Odera’s – Mwingine
playing, Maureen walked down the aisle to a standing ovation from her congregation
The joy was palpable, everywhere you turned you felt it!
This is timeless!!!
Loved this portrait of this ageing woman, one of my day’s fav
Cute kiddo this one was
The reveal we had all been waiting for
And the joy kept on bubbling over
Henry, the best man presents the rings to the officiating minister
The congregation could not keep hold their laughter & often giggled along!
And Jay & Mo joined along in the happy buffet
Holding hands is one of the most tender & passionate gestures between two people in love. I find it intriguing how the officiant always insists on the bride & groom holding hands, my sincere prayer always is that this wonderful deed will become a habit & certainly never stop till the day that God will call them home
Always love the choir uniforms, these ones are among my personal favs
Hahahah I have no idea what Jay was telling Mo, but must have been pretty hilarious 🙂
Mo’s buddies from church
And as we took a walk about the church we caught this wonderful moments unfolding
And finally the KISS we had all been holding our breath for…and everyone cheered to it
And the certificate was tucked safely in Jay’s sock, to our amusement
And when the garlands came out, celebration mood kicked in…
So many wonderful moments we had here
I wish we would adopt this tradition in all African weddings, I have a sweet little spot for shiny garlands 🙂
Oh what a precious moment this was…so very sweet
Final dedication by the officiant, there was a lot of spirit in that final prayer
That wonderful private moment between the newly weds
After the ceremony we hit Kakamega Sports Club
for some day time portraits, the sun was really hot but we made the most out of it
The colours looked lovely
Hahaha the guys had all the fun 🙂
Maureen & the little angels looked really lovely
And then Rev. Pete Odera showed up, who is also Mo’s pastor, wonderful moment here
Since the guys are big golf lovers, they had to ‘tee off’ hope I got that correct 🙂
Loved the set up they had done there
They took dancing to an all time new
Turn down for what!!!!
There were so many people everywhere at some point, Gathoni & I thought a riot was just about to break lose 🙂
That groomsman is one quick thinker
On that Music festival throw back 🙂
Eric the MC had Jay blindfolded and then span him around such that Jay would absolutely lose his bearing
Then he led him to the farthest part of the field with Henry in tow
Then the audience directed Jay to where Mo had sat, by only shouting to him directions, before long Jay found the love of his life. I guess its true when they said that if it’s meant to be it will be 🙂
The second game, the MC Eric requested Henry the best man to inflate a balloon, we all wondered why!
He then placed it in-between Jay & Mo & asked them to hug close until the balloon burst….hahaha this was hilarious
And before long, we had the loudest pop ever, this had to be the closest I have been to a war zone
And that is the way married people solve problems, nothing a tight hug cannot fix 🙂
Mmmmmhhhhh… Kakamega does make the best chicken ever known to man…finger lickin’ good!
And as always they had to sit on the bed, to test it if it were any good…hilarious traditions these are 🙂
Mo receives one big bear hug from her dad-in-love
The two mums lock each other in an embrace, I live for such moments as this
And this was the beautiful walk way that led to the cake, it was time for my favourite time of day
Nothing was left to chance
And then the cake…we had a miniature golf course right here, this is not something you see often
And that champagne spray gave me & my camera a good drench, as always anything for the shot 🙂
Mo shares a light moment with some of her guests
There’s always time for a selfie
Loved the second outfits that the maids had for the reception, Vazilangu
once again outdid themselves
And then it rained, which I heard, is typical of afternoons in Kakamega
There was love everywhere, the rain never dampened any spirits as you can see
Here the guest don’t just bring gifts, they bring them in STYLE
Happy times were plenty here
Jay had some sweet somethings to share with his lovely blushing bride 🙂
As you can see the MC, Eric never wanted to miss the opportunity of catching the bouquet 🙂
Gathoni & I have many apprentices, who we know nothing about 🙂
Gathoni & I’s different perspective at the exact same instant….she always has my back 🙂
Yep, I told ya, He put a ring on it!!!
Everyone from Mo’s church Waterbrook Church
came in the droves to support one of their own
🙂 the guys kept making my day
Too much love everywhere we looked
So many lovely smiles to capture, oh can’t every wedding just be like this!!!!!
This is what a meet & greet ought to look like….
Then we met some two really amazing people Joel & Anne and we decided to take a selfie with them…they hang out with us for the rest of the night & were the most amazing hosts ever!!!
We wanted to take some last look portraits of Jay & Maureen. We got an empty hall and shot away!!!!
We were going for a high fashion look & Mo absolutely nailed it!!!
And when Jay joined us…the magic started!!!!
Well, amidst the magi we had a few light moments
It had been one loooong day, & Jay deserved one right up on his cheek 🙂
With the right woman by your side!!!! the sky cannot even limit you!
And with these last images, we were off to get some dancing on!!!
Loved the casual look that Jay & Mo went for, they wanted to dance & they did not want the stiff evening wear to hold them back!!
Their 1st dance was beautiful!
And then the party started off with the all time favourite shuffle
And those who were not able to get the steps complained away Cc:: Kui 🙂
Aha!!! This is how we do
Hahahah I have no idea what was happening here
And with this last shot we called it a night…It had been almost 18 hours on our feet shooting…we were really tired but so grateful. It had been a different experience for Gathoni & I, but one we really loved all the same. Weddings are stories and to be just present to cover Jay & Maureen’s story was something we are so thankful to God for.
We thank God for you Mo & Jay, thank you for trusting us to tell your wonderful story & we know that this is just a taste of what the Lord has in store for both of you…
Loads of love,
ALL GLORY & HONOUR BELONGS TO THE MOST HIGH GOD!
