A portrait of Leon Muli
Today I feature a friend & one of my greatest mentors Leon Muli. I 1st met Leon through his work about 2.5 years ago. Then I was still an 8-5 working Telecommunication Engineer at Orange, looking for a better meaning to life :-). Then I was such a great fun of taking images with my faithful Nokia phone and post them up on my facebook account. Leon is one if the few who encouraged me to venture into photography and gave me psyke in telling me that if I put much practise & passion in what I did I would one day become half as good as he is 🙂 (My words really :-)).
Anyway Leon has & will always be a great inspiration in my journey of photography & I am honoured to feature him in on my blog and share some of his wonderful work with the whole wide world web. I asked him also to share a few of his life secrets…indulge….
1. Who is Leon Muli? both the known & the unknown?
(Laughs) I am a normal next door person and very much under the radar. The unkown is that I have deejayed for an online radio station and won DJ of the year in 2007 for that station.
2. Silliest thing you ever did growing up?
Mmmhmm…. Trying to drive my dad’s nissan matatu and crushed it into a wall, ninja style!
3. What got you into photography & how did you start?
Part of it I attribute to my dad coz he was a wedding photographer. But my passion grew when I was at USIU
, thanks to the opportunities available. Since then I have never looked back.
4. Biggest motivation behind all those great images we see?
Movies…. Movies inspire me a lot and most probably than not you will find me at Westgate
on a weekend watching one on big screen (Smiling)
5. Top 3 qualities of your dream date?
Focussed, loves the Lord and no doubt, beautiful.
6. What in your opinion is the difference between a good & great artist?
Mmmhmm…. That is hard. I can’t differentiate, at the end of the day, we are all the same.
7. Greatest mistake you ever made as a small business owner?
Publishing photos without a client’s consent. That copyright issue is such an annoyance, but I have to live with it. I am wiser now, I don’t give my rights at all.
8. What part has faith played in your success as a young artist?
God. I just love Him. He is the reason for my fire, used to inspire (feeling all hiphopish lol)
9. What would you want the world to remember Leon Muli for?
Good question. To be honest i hate glory and fame. I am a fan of impacting on the grass root level. As long as I have impressed God, that is enough.
10. Advice to young artists seeking to make a livelihood from their art?
One word: Passion. You will surpass boundaries that you never expected coz of that little spark in you.
Awesome some more of his awesome art!
Hope you loved the images & also learnt a thing or 10 🙂 from the interview:
