My 1st love in photography is as always wedding photography. There is nothing more beautiful and noble than capturing the love, romance & feeling between a couple on the day of their wedding. My desire every time I pack my bag and leave the house heading for a wedding, is to attempt to freeze and still the moments between the couple, privately and with as much feeling as possible. I read widely and do a lot of research, trying to better my posing skills and also try and make my shots (although posed & directed) look as natural as possible and capture the couple in their true emotion.
I always try and find new posing techniques, and many times peruse through high fashion magazines & sites trying to find the most emotional & surreal poses possible. I learnt a new technique from the incredible wedding photographer Jasmine Star, (Check out her blog here) about how to move a couple into a pose. So very often as a wedding photographer one realises that people respond differently to the same instruction. So instead of telling a couple ‘Face one another & kiss’ it is preferred to move the couple to a pose. e.g tell the couple to walk towards you, then turn to each other, hug & kiss, that way one is able to capture all the awkward moments & that makes the images unique to the couple.
I have also realised that more & more brides nowadays are going for a magazine, artsy kind of look for their images. So, brides prefer images that border to high fashion, both glamorous & with real feel. Thus, it is the challenge of the photographer to pose the bride & groom in a way that brings out the best of these. Finally, it is my mantra when covering weddings to shoot no two weddings alike. I don’t walk in having it all figured out, I rely on my creative bone to find new & creative ways to make the wedding as unique to the couple as possible (the environment plays a key role too). Also every couple have a different vybe & personality & its up to me as the photographer, to bring this out in the images, and make the wedding as happy a reminder for the couple as possible.
Here are 20 of my most favourite wedding images from some of the top wedding photographers in the world, that inspire me everyday to up my game & move out of my comfort zone to be super-creative!
Hope you loved my fav list…
