GLORY BE TO GOD for another great day to share with you another wonderful love story. I pray for God’s blessings upon your lives. Before we start, I just wanted to share with you these words from Yolanda Adam’s song- The Battle is Not Yours
‘There’s no sadness Jesus can’t feel
And there is no sorrow that He cannot heal
For all things work according to the Master’s holy will
No matter what you’re going through
Remember that God is only using You
For this battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s’
Be blessed and welcome to this amazing love story of Kui & Sam
Ours was a simple love romance that began in March 2013. This is my story going down memory lane, he was at work, not sure about the exact day or time. It was a slow day as he had been strategizing on his sales projections (*wink* I think he told me this so that I could later view him as boyfriend material) in his cubicle office along Argwings Kodhek Road. He had been listening to some music and while at it, leaned over to his desk mate for some conversation. Just after he did, he stared at her laptop screen (I’m assuming she thought to herself that he was being intrusive). We’ll, Shiru was viewing my Facebook profile, it had been a while since we talked, I bet she wanted to figure out whether I was doing ok since our Campus days.
She was beautiful in his sight (trying a bit of Shakespeare narrative), he stared at my profile picture and after his weird stance, and he wanted to know WHO THAT WAS? Shiro being a mother goose of course wanted to be protective of me. First forward, I get a friend request from a Sam Kahiga, I think to myself, I have no idea who this is. For some reason, I went on further to check whether we had mutual friends and turns out he knew sooooooo many of my friends from Ngong. I hit the accept button and before I could think of why I had pulled such a stupid stunt in the era of cybercrime and photo shop, my messenger was beeping with yours truly’s chat messages from the land of proper Swahili. And as they say, the rest is history….. I GOT ENGAGED 3 YEARS 7 MONTHS LATER and got MARRIED TO MY BEST FRIEND a year after I was engaged!
There I was, minding my own business, working tirelessly for my future (lol) when all of a sudden i decided to take a break, relax, lean back on my seat and there she was.. Looking so peaceful on that Facebook profile picture which I still treasure till today… my colleague Shiro, had opened Kui’s profile on her laptop and all I saw was peace. I could swear for a moment her picture had a halo over her head.
That was the first time I saw my Kui.
True to the fact, I never stopped calling her by that name. Now Shiro had to hook a brother up! Trust me, I begged for her to let me know her name since she had already closed Kui’s profile in haste noticing that I had just sneaked a peek on her stalker activities. She had no choice other than to hook me up.
So I travelled to Dar es Salaam that week and while I was in my hotel room at Peacock hotel, I noticed that Kui had accepted my friend request. (Yesss, ours was a Facebook love story… sorry to all you Danielle Steel fans) Without wasting any more valuable company time (yeah right) I decided to send a chat and say ‘Hi’. I told myself that she would probably not see it and would never reply but there she was! “Typing….” the next best feeling in this digital era after polyphonic ringtones. Let’s just say I didn’t go for my planned meeting that day. We exchanged numbers and I couldn’t wait till I got back to Kenya to call her and so I did. We arranged to meet on Friday evening immediately after our end of year company party which I had to make up a story and leave early because I didn’t want Kui to leave Nairobi town and go home before I could meet her.
We met, at Cafe Deli, and due to my haste, I realized I had no cash to pay for her coffee which she had been having while waiting for me. So I told her to pay for it and I will sort her out when I get to the ATM. Till today, she still says that my genuineness attracted me to her. Trust me that really made me know that she was different… The next day was my birthday, lucky enough, and the good Lord gave me another chance to get a treat from this lovely Angel I had just met. She told me that she wanted to buy me lunch for my birthday at Maasai Lodge. She insisted it was her treat and I was still embarrassed from last night, but I went along with it. The lunch was amazing, the mood was just right, and when I went in for that first kiss, it rained…… It just felt right. And as they say, the rest was history.
Ps: I refunded her the Ksh 250 for coffee. A Lannister always pays his debts. 🙂

To Sam & Kui,
