Weddings are a celebration of love. One reason why I believe that God led me to shoot weddings, is because weddings are close to the heart of God. We all follow the example of Adam & Eve, and God saw that it was fit for man to get a helper. This for me, is my calling, what pushes me, what drives me. For I know that for me its not just a job, but a divine calling and a gift that these lovely couples will cherish for the rest of their lives. To God be all glory.
Another of my great commissions was to document the beautiful wedding of Isaac & Joyce. I had met them almost a year to their wedding. I shot their engagement shoot and over the months leading to their wedding discussed over their vision for their wedding day. I asked them how their love story came to be and this is what they had to say about it..
‘We met in December 2005 when we worked for the same employer. Initially, our friendship grew as colleagues but more and more we grew closer to each other and became really good friends. However, due to life commitments and fate, each one of us followed a different career path that took Joyce away from the country in 2008. We communicated from time to time albeit the distance. We would occasionally bump into each other when Joyce was in the country in one of our favorite cafe’s in Nairobi. We each were in different relationships at the time. However, by mid-2013, I realised we were both single and I started making advances towards Joyce. At first, she never really took them seriously and initially thought I was joking and said no three times. In August of that year, she had come to Nairobi on leave and we had agreed to meet up. The date never happened due to my work commitments. For sure now Joyce thought that my advances were a joke.
I kept at it and on 18th September 2013, I officially asked her to be my girlfriend. The answer came after a long wait as she was away on work duties. As from then, she would visit me in Nairobi whenever she had the opportunity. Time flew and on 14th October 2014, I proposed to her in Dubai where she also lives.
From that point we started planning for our wedding and the distance between us did not make it any easier. Thank God for technology (Skype and WhatsApp) we were able to organize by and large the whole event. Joyce would periodically come to Kenya to catch up on the arrangements as well as bring in our personalised decor which we used on the day. We give thanks to God for seeing us through all that and for giving us genuine and co-operative vendors.
It has been a beautiful journey so far and we look forward to our happily ever after.
