Glory be to God, for the precious gift of life, love & the hope of eternity someday!!!
It has been a great month, our birthday month and we thank God that he has blessed with such wonderful individuals in our lives in the form of clients. There is a mystic magic that weddings bring, and I know that it has all to do with this mystery called love. Ian & Rose are two individuals who bring to life this beautiful magic of love. It was great being part of the most special day in their lives, seeing how they love & adore each other esp how they look at each other :). This blog is a celebration of these two awesome people, Ian & Rose, their love story and a testament that true love, founded in Christ, does truly exist.
I took some time to ask them both about how they met & their proposal, this is what they had to say
‘We were both students of law at the University of Nairobi , graduated the same year but had never interacted even just to exchange pleasantries. Long after Graduating from Law school we would bump into each other at Mavuno church where Rose fellowshipped and I would visit when home on vacation. It wasn’t until December 2012, The Sunday preceding Christmas Day that we got to meet outside church after service and exchange contacts. I asked Rose if we could meet up for coffee and catch up sometime and she was not quite amenable to the idea but courteously said she wouldn’t be available until the new year as she was travelling to Kisii for the Christmas break. I also travelled to Nyeri for the break! A date was then set for the 4th of January 2013 at Art Cafe junction.
So come 4th of January, the lunch date extended long into the evening. The food and conversation were enjoyed.
Ian came along with a gift and I thought how lovely and kind of him for a first date. The gift was a book- “The best of God in Small Things”. We didn’t meet again till some time in April as Ian went back to Dubai where he works. We exchanged messages a few times but I didn’t quite give him attention owing to some other distraction in my life at that point in time. In April, Ian was home one of the weekends and requested for a brunch date at the same Art Cafe one lovely Saturday morning. During the brunch, I remember him looking at me straight in the eye as he made his intentions crystal clear in these very words ” I would like to get to know you with a view of dating”. ….I was speechless for a minute as I didn’t see this coming. I was not ready for a commitment then so I did not say yes. Nonetheless, we kept in touch after he went back and after months of our interacting and his persistence, in July that year he asked again and this time I said yes, as our friendship had deepened by then. From that point, we would speak on Skype regularly and also managed to spend time together whenever Ian was in Nairobi. I also got an opportunity to visit him in Dubai in December that year. We discovered that we both had a desire to grow in our Christian walk and I must say that Ian was used by God to deepen my relationship with Him. I have lost count of the number of Christian books he has blessed me with. We have also enjoyed reading books together via Skype and one particular one……”101 Questions to ask before you get engaged “helped us get to know each other better.
Fast forward to July 2014 when we travelled together and had a wonderful time exploring parts of Italy and France. Although I had anticipated (or at least hoped!) he might propose during this trip he didn’t give much away and I recall one evening in Rome when we were at a nice dinner somewhere, I thought he would propose then but it didn’t happen. I went home with many questions in my mind that evening. Ultimately, one evening after a day spent wandering around Paris we went for a nice evening boat cruise and dinner along the Seine River. During the cruise, he excused himself from the table a couple of times and I wasn’t quite sure what was up. We had a lovely dinner and took in the sights along the river as we cruised at sunset. Finally, as dessert was being served, with the band playing some mellow background music, Ian held my hand and looked me in the eye and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him! Needless to say, my answer was a definite YES. He presented me with a beautiful engagement ring in the colour & stone I had always dreamt of (thanks to his “research” through my friend and soon to be maid of honour- Jenny Nduati). Just as he did so, the band on the boat cued up the music and serenaded us. That was one memorable evening. The next day my fiancé arranged for us to go on a photo shoot around Paris to mark our engagement. We both thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and the pictures always bring back happy memories of our engagement.
Ian says… I thank God for our beautiful journey and acknowledge the importance of honouring God with sexual purity while dating. This was made easier by the support of loving friends and family who held us accountable every step of the way.
