This past Sunday, Gathoni & I had the chance to attend this year’s Goove Awards and the theme of this year’s awards was~ letting your light shine! This is one of my favourite verses and I am officially adopting it as my life’s mantra, it’s found in Matt 5:16
‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven’
I could not think of a more perfect way to begin this week; than with this wonderful challenge. All through the event as I sat down, hand in hand with my wife, I thought about these words, and wondered whether indeed I was a shining light. I thought about the people I interacted with, my family, friends, clients, random guys I met down the street. How brightly did my light shine? Did my life leave any positive mark? Did I make a difference? All these thoughts troubled me, but what troubled me most, was whether my life deeds brought glory to God. It’s with these line of thought that I kick off today’s post….does your life reflect these words?…So let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds & glorify your father in heaven.
Today, we have the pleasure of sharing with you a wedding that is very close to our hearts. Steve & Eunice are two very special individuals, whose life have left such a wonderful mark in Gathoni & I’s life. Even though our initial connection was them requesting us to document their beautiful wedding…we became fast friends. Eunice & Steve have to be the loveliest & most down to earth people ever. I remember, just after they were back from their honeymoon, we welcomed them to our home office for afternoon tea for their 1st viewing of their wedding pictures. I remember Gathoni & I, sitting down and laughing at their ooohhs & aaahs as they went through their images. Then I remember sitting with Steve on our living room carpet as we discussed about their album design & all…this was great…it feels good to not only make beautiful memories for couples, but for us to become buddies, beyond business ties.
We had the pleasure of telling this beautiful story a few weeks back, so grab a seat & take the time to go through this very beautiful love story…without further ado, here goes…

Steve chosen footwear for the day!!!!! This man can pick his shoes quite well
Normally, Gathoni has to shoot the groom’s details which involves his suit. She hang Steve’s on the living room’s chandelier
Steve is helped by one of his groomsmen to suit up
A good cologne does go a long way 🙂
Just making sure that Steve is ready to hit the aisle. Dapper all the way
Back at Eunice’s home, we started off shooting her details. We are big fans of the outdoors…so when the opportunity provided, we jumped at it
The lush green was ever so beautiful…so we had a thorough ball
Kangai dolls up our beautiful bride of the day, Eunice
After Kangai was done working her magic, we all gasped at Eunice’s final look
Getting her hair did…the bridal-prep room was full of her family & friends & there was so much joy to go around
And then the brothers checked in
Such a beautiful image this was
Our gorgeous bride of the day, Eunice
More light moments with family & friends
Eunice’s mum got a number of her lady buddies, and laying hands on Eunice, they prayed for her, dedicating her to God
I caught this beautiful image as Eunice left her home, with her dad lovingly beside her
The women came to receive Eunice, and their ululations rocked the morning air
So much joy!!! Oh nothing can match African weddings
Steve’s dad was so excited, that his hat could not just stay on!! 🙂
VIP treatment for the beautiful bride
Well, I was trying to take a selfie, when Eunice just decided to photobomb this pic…or is it the other way round, my memory fails me 🙂
This little boy is just too cute, not once did I think of ditching the wedding & shooting him the entire day
Time to leave for church
I just loved this shot, I have no idea why though 🙂
After Steve walked in with his folks, the men in black were up next
And then the procession. I have noticed that Presbyterian churches have a thing for red carpets, everyone is royalty here I guess
Happy people everywhere!
With the doors closing behind them, Eunice & her folks gracefully walked down the aisle, to a standing ovation 🙂
Steve thanks God, that she at least showed up in church 🙂 now to the all important vows
That little charmer is quite the attention grabber, especially opposite gender attention 🙂
Steve’s folks celebrate
It has been a long minute since I saw or read a Swahili bible, it even deserved a photo on its own!
The guys all fresh & clean!
And for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’ 🙂
Replace ‘man’ in the statement above with ‘woman’ 🙂
And the process of becoming ‘One’ is quite hilarious 🙂
And against their wishes, the presiding minister insisted that Eunice’s train be placed squarely on Steve’s shoulder, as the bible reminds us, ‘For every man shall carry his own cross’
And yes they had to walk around the church for Steve to parade his beautiful pride for the all to see, just in case someone out there still had any lingering ideas 🙂
Steve’s dad reaction on seeing them was priceless 🙂
I caught this image of their vows, just so that Eunice & Steve would have a constant reminder of this for the rest of their earthly lives
The marriage certificate is tucked safely in by Eunice, right next to the heart!
I am such a sucker of such images…in photography jargon we call it depth of field
Reminding us that the 10% belongs to not us, but to God!
Never too early to start practising on how to walk down the aisle…as they say, practise makes perfect!
Little angels deep in prayer
The recession was fun, fun, fun
This is how a normal working day for us looks like, getting through this crowd every time we need to get a shot 🙁 #WeddingPhotographerWoes
God is watching all those guys out there scaring little innocent kids 🙂
He just had to be in every shot 🙂
After this we left for Safari Park, we started off with a shot of the entire party at the hotel’s lobby
And when we stepped outside for the portrait session, the magic started!!!
For the guys, we always go for a cool & suave kinda look. Let’s just say that Steve & the guys got this nail on the head!!
For the girls, its normally a mix of high fashion & sweet, seems that Eunice & the girls got the memo too 🙂
Uber -cute…for all those TVC agents looking for kids to cast in their next commercial….you are welcome 🙂
Nothing like a good candid moment! Can’t exchange that for the world
So beautiful, you can never go wrong with an aerial shot
As you can clearly tell, only one girl got the scary face thingy correct, the rest were just too busy laughing to be scary!
The gentleman’s walk
Another candid moment that we caught
We wanted something fun! and we just told them to kid about, as we shot away
Don’t get it twisted, we had all our security needs well taken care of!
Next we did the couple shots, and we had lots of fun with these
Next we just decided to take some super fun portraits
Am still working on my research on how high you can throw a bride without her being raptured into heaven :)…the study continues 🙂
In revenge, Eunice put her kung-fu skills to the test…and had all the guys flying all over 🙂
And then the men in black showed up…I later found out that they were Eunice’s brothers 🙂
After this, we headed to Paradise Gardens where Eunice & Steve had planned out an elaborate reception for us all!
When we got in…the dancing & singing was phenomenal, for lack of better words, OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
Happy times & people everywhere we turned
Loved this portrait much
And the men had loads of fun too
Yessss…for those who didn’t know, this is how we throw down a party this side of the Sahara
Steve’s dad show cases
You can tell from the audience reaction how good his dancing was 🙂
Bouncing castles are a must have in today’s wedding
Lovely smiles warming up to our cameras everywhere
The cheetah was there and the kids had a field day trying to be friend it
The zoom lens helped us snap images of the guests unaware
A snippet of what we had for our dessert, Safari Park Hotel do know how to do their food
DJ Sadic’s crew, Genius Entertainment, did a wonderful job of keeping us on our feet
The cake was a work of a master-craftsman…good work Design A Cake
Time for Steve & Eunice to share their 1st meal as husband & wife
They 1st had to get really comfortable, before sharing their 1st meal
Eunice was a ball of glorious joy!
And then guys came around to congratulate the newly weds
We all got a good drench down from the champagne shower
MC Jessy has to be the funniest MC Kenya has to offer, hands down…oh he had us in stitches all through the reception
And the single ladies got the chance to fight for the bridal bouquet
And the lucky girl was…that’s a new client on my brides-to-be list 🙂
This has to be one of the most fun meet & greet ever…so much love & joy was shared!!!
Eunice has to be one of the happiest souls on the face of this world
Everyone shared her joy with her
Hahaha good times this were
So many, many happy people everywhere
Just before darkness descended on us, we took a few portraits with the dramatic skies
Loved the vintage mobile
We did some other few images by the lobby
Peek-a-boo time is my favourite time of day
Loved the lights that lit up the night ceiling at the lobby
Loved these ones by the African Elephant
Then we did the last look portraits at their honeymoon suite
And with this last shot we called it a night. It as a beautiful, beautiful wedding and we really thank our good Lord for letting our paths cross. We sincerely hope that we will be able to meet some awesome people like Eunice & Steve. Gathoni & I wish them all the best that this life has to offer. We pray for you, the prayer of Jabez, that our dear Lord may bless you indeed & expand your boundaries making you people of influence in this country & beyond.
